Abstract:“Resisting the Border” draws on archival and field research, collecting stories from Alberta, the Dakotas, Montana, and Saskatchewan to suggest that in the first decades of the twentieth century those who lived on the northern grasslands created transnational identities. Using evidence drawn from oral storytelling and narrative theory, the essay explores the meaning of the US-Canadian border to those who lived in the borderlands.
