Abstract:Sacred values might seem ethically problematic. After all, sacred values are treated as inviolable (tradeoffs with ordinary values are forbidden), incontestable (even contemplating such tradeoffs is prohibited), and dialectically invulnerable (no rational considerations can disrupt the agent’s commitment to the value).
