Resistance to Erosive Wear of Epoxy-Polyurethane Coating Modified With Nanofillers

Abstract: The paper presents results of investigation on the erosive wear kinetics of epoxy-polyurethane coatings modified with alumina or silica nanoparticles, aged climatically for three years. Destruction of coating surface layers due to natural weathering caused a decrease of their erosive wear resistance. Modification of the composition of polyurethane (surface) layer with nanofiller caused the remarkable increase of erosion resistance. Epoxy-polyurethane coatings with nanosilica modified surface layer, showed the … Show more

“…The study of [41] revealed that the additions of nano-SiO 2 in the polymer coating could enhance the abrasion and scratch resistance, hardness and strength. Moreover, other nanoparticles such as SiC, ZrO 2 , ZnO, Al 2 O 3 , and TiO 2 were also used for the enhancement of the coating properties [45,46,47]. Kotnarowska et al [46] evaluated the performance of the unmodified epoxy-polyurethane coating and epoxy-polyurethane coatings modified with silica or alumina nanoparticles over three years.…”

Kotnarowska et al [46] evaluated the performance of the unmodified epoxy-polyurethane coating and epoxy-polyurethane coatings modified with silica or alumina nanoparticles over three years. From the result analysis, it was found that the modified epoxy-polyurethane coatings indicated higher erosive wear resistance than the other two coatings as shown in Figure 5.…”
