Resins containing extractants: Morphology of polymers prepared by polymerization of vinyl monomers in the presence of uranium‐selective extractants

Abstract: The effect of a selective organophosphours extractant on the structure and properties of crosslinked polymers was studied. The extractant, incorporated in the polymerization mixture, affected the formation of the polymer. The uranium capacity of the resin was directly proportional to the amount of extractant. The use of scanning electron microscopy showed that the polymers are macroporous and that the porosity depends on the amounts of extractant and crosslinking agent.

“…This agglomeration of microspheres inside the beads can cause an opaque appearance because of these structures. The greater compactness of polymeric areas on the surface than inside the microspheres has been attributed to compression due to the interfacial tension between the organic phase and the aqueous phase during the suspension polymerization [17] . Figure 2 and Figure 3 show the SEM results of the core-shell microspheres.…”

“…A impregnação dos suportes póssíntese apresenta limitações devido ao carreamento do complexante durante a retenção e eluição dos íons e também à dificuldade de se obter uma razão ótima entre o agente complexante e o suporte. O grau de impregnação ótimo corresponde a uma quantidade mínima necessária para cobrir toda a superfície do suporte como um filme líquido homogêneo [5] .…”

“…Chemical compounds can be separated through identification and quantification [28,29]. Adsorption resins have a specific area and pore diameter for rapid diffusion of ions and improved extraction kinetics with an increase in the complexing capacity [30]. Dowex TM Optipore TM SD-2 has been used in the food industry to remove color, flavor and odor in sweeteners as it has pore structures to maximize the load, as well as the high mechanical, chemical and thermal capacity [31].…”
