Resilient Cities

Abstract: Resilient cities survive traumatic blows, successfully recovering from major disasters. Resilience is a planning goal and a metaphor for the community that effectively responds to catastrophic stress. Its importance has increased with the increased frequency and severity of natural, technological, and other hazards. Building urban resilience requires advance planning, community organization, resourceful leadership, and robust physical and social infrastructure.
