“…Since the G attachment protein is not required for F protein triggering in pneumoviruses, it is not clear what triggers the F proteins of pneumoviruses. While it has been proposed that low pH triggers the fusion of hMPV F protein through protonation of H435 (42), emerging evidence indicates that low-pH-induced membrane fusion mediated by the hMPV F protein is a rare and strain-dependent phenomenon (21,31).
