“…In our study, residual aortic regurgitation grade moderate‐to‐severe (grade ≥3+) after TAVI was an independent predictor of mortality during follow‐up (HR 3.4).The overall incidence of aortic regurgitation was 48.2% (31.1% mild, 14.0% moderate, and 3.2% moderate‐to‐severe or severe), which is similar to that observed in other registries and randomized trials .While the prognostic impact of lower degrees of residual aortic regurgitation remains debated it is clear that every measure has to be taken to prevent or reduce residual aortic regurgitation in order to improve the clinical outcome of TAVI. Additional important predictors of mortality after TAVI in our study were sepsis (HR 6.1) and life‐threatening bleeding (HR 2.8), a finding consistent with other registries comprising transfemoral procedures which highlights the need for careful procedural and postprocedural management in these fragile patients.…”
