Abstract: This study investigates the residents’ perceptions of Rio de Janeiro regarding the impacts of Rio 2016 Olympic Games. “…80 Much of the extant literature employed qualitative analysis (65%), using case study and descriptive narrative approaches. Only 19% of the studies used quantitative methods, such as correlation analysis, 81 confirmatory factor analysis, 82 analysis of variance, 83 and structural equation modeling. 84 Two studies used a mixed-methods approach (i.e., a combination of qualitative and quantitative).…”

“…Some studies 36,82,102 have posited that megaproject complexity could originate from issues with ambiguous legal systems and partnership agreements, limited shareholder commitments, and a lack of transparency in the tender process. Cultural aspects were also referenced in explaining megaproject complexity involving multiple nations, 83,141,142 wherein cultural and linguistic differences seemed to complicate the management and coordination of activities. Other studies highlighted the difficulties of a cultural gap between the project team and the local community, 100,105,148 which could potentially lead to crises and social rejection.…”

“…Previous studies have shown that the Rio Olympic bid promised accessibility and equity on transportation systems as a legacy for the host city (Pereira 2018), but it has not happened. As noted by Zouain et al (2019), the Rio Olympics built a negative opinion towards the misuse of public resources, increase in prices, and non-lasting legacies, while Rocha (2020) highlighted the progressively decrease in resident perceptions of Olympic legacies from 2012 to 2018. On the other hand, previous studies have also found significant relationships between positive impacts and support intentions (Ouyang et al 2017).…”
