Residence time distribution analysis and kinetic study of toluene photo-degradation using a continuous immobilized photoreactor

Abstract: The photocatalytic degradation of volatile organic compounds is an innovative intensification technology. In this study, photocatalytic degradation of toluene has been investigated in a novel continuous immobilized photoreactor and the flow regimes were characterized and modeled by means of residence time distribution (RTD) of the gas phase. RTD analysis indicates that the flow regime in such a reactor cannot be considered as perfect plug and that a significant axial dispersion is available. A compartment model… Show more

“…For the gasification experiment, a mixture of CO2 gas and nitrogen was used. In general, the detected gas concentration profile had a similar shape with the other references (Jafarikojour et al, 2014;Serres et al, 2018;Wojewódka et al, 2019).…”

“…The main necessity for the estimation of intrinsic kinetic coefficients independent from the configuration of the reactor for the performance evaluation of it, is using the reactor which operates under conditions that photon and mass transfer limitations are not considerable . There are some kinetic studies which consider the hydrodynamic behavior of a SDR as a plug flow reactor. ,, Consideration of the reactor hydrodynamic model in a kinetics study is necessary for the determination of intrinsic kinetic parameters independent from their configuration. , …”
