Reservoir Management of the Gullfaks Main Field

Abstract: The giant Gullfaks Main Field comprises Statfjord, Cook and Brent Formations of Early to Middle Jurassic. The reservoir is complex due to large number of faults and extreme permeability contrast ranging from several Darcies in the Tarbert to milli-Darcy in the Cook. The highly productive sands are poorly consolidated causing sand production problem. Reservoir fluid in some of the areas contains high H2S. Uncertainties associated with structures, degree of communication, extreme contrast in reservoir properties… Show more

“…The gas oil ratio is within 90 and 180 ft 3 /ft 3 , with stock tank oil gravity around 53.69 lb/ft3 (Hesjedal & Eltvik, 2008). According to Talukdar & Instefjord (2008), the oil gravity is between 32-36 o API, and the initial GOR in Brent is 100 ft 3 /ft 3 .…”

“…The main drainage strategy in offshore fields has been pressure maintenance by gas and water injection. Figure 7 shows the statistics of oil recovery projects in the North Sea [262][263][264][265] as well as EOR opportunities in offshore Malaysia [266][267][268][269][270]. [262]) and, (b) EOR Opportunities Offshore Malaysia (From Samsudin et al, [268]).…”
