Researches Regarding Optimising the Contouring Precision of CNC Laser Cutting Machines

Abstract: This paper presents some experimental researches regarding the manufacturing accuracy of a profiling machine together with an approach to eliminate the positioning and contouring errors. A mathematical model based on transfer functions is used as starting approach in order to tune the feed drives of the machine. The accuracy of the profiling machine is tested before and after the tuning process, in order to validate the proposed approach. There are unfolded both positioning tests along one axis and contouring … Show more

“…All the systems have a certain lag regarding the commanded position which is related to how well tuned are the servos. Therefore by tuning the system can be reached a smaller lag, a higher loop gain resulting in a better path accuracy and a more precise part [9].…”

“…The aim of this paper is to investigate the behaviour of the sheet metal blank deformed through single point incremental forming process, with focus on the sheet metal bending error. Also a mathematical model is proposed in order to evaluate the maximum deviation between the CAD profile of the part and the actual profile obtained through finite element analysis method in relation to the distance between the initial contact of the tool and retaining rings [13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20].…”

“…To achieve higher manufacturing efficiency, Sencer et al [12] proposed a crosscoupled controller to improve the differential positioning errors between dual servo drives by modifying the reference position and velocity commands; this approach improves motion synchronization without affecting the overall tracking bandwidth. Biris et al [13] proposed a mathematical model based on the transfer function to adjust the machine feed-drive system and conducted experiments to compare the effectiveness of various methods for eliminating positioning and contour errors. Chen et al [14] proposed an iterative learning control (ILC) algorithm to optimize the synchronization errors of rigid tapping; this algorithm provides better commands for z-axis and spindle motions, synchronizing their output responses as much as possible.…”
