Research Trends and Most Influential Clinical Studies on Anti-PD1/PDL1 Immunotherapy for Cancers: A Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract: In this study, a bibliometric analysis was carried out to identify the most influential clinical studies and research trends on anti-programmed cell death 1/programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (anti-PD1/PDL1) immunotherapy. On January 1, 2022, we used Web of Science to identify the 100 most frequently cited papers on clinical studies investigating anti-PD1/PDL1 immunotherapy, and extracted the following data: publication year, source title, country/region, institution, and the total number of citations. The resea… Show more

“…Citation analysis is one of the main methods of bibliometrics, which can evaluate the quality and recognition of articles, and better understand the discipline construction and development of a research field. At present, many immunotherapy-related areas have been well researched and explored through bibliometric analysis, such as the analyses of highly cited articles in programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) and programmed cell death ligand 1(PD-L1) immunotherapy ( 20 ), immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma ( 21 ) and colorectal cancer ( 22 ), and emerging chimeric antigen receptor-based immunotherapy ( 23 ). However, currently, there is no published paper on the quantitative analysis of interactions between GM and CI.…”

“…The Web of Science (Science Citation Indexing Expanded database) is frequently used for bibliometric analysis. This database includes more than 10,000 high-quality journals and comprehensive citation records ( 6 ). In addition, its document type labels of publications were reported to be more precise than other databases such as Scopus ( 9 ).…”

“…As a method for sorting published articles and establishing the citation relationship (ie, bibliographic coupling) between them, a bibliometric analysis can aid researchers to become familiar with the state of a research area ( 6 , 7 ). It is superior to review or meta-analysis in evaluating a whole academic discipline including thousands of publications ( 8 ).…”

“…The main treatments for lung cancer involved surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. In recent years, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and targeted therapy have led to a remarkable improvement in the prognosis of patients with lung cancer ( 2 ). Programmed cell death 1 (PD–1)/PD1 ligand 1 (PD–L1) interaction is the most frequent target for lung cancer immunotherapy.…”
