Research progress on the cathodic protection current and potential distribution of the tank bottom plate

Abstract: Cathodic protection is an important method to prevent the corrosion of the tank bottom plate. In this article, the research status in recent decades of the current density and potential distribution of the tank bottom plate in cathodic protection is summarized. The research status and problems of the analytical and numerical methods for tank bottom plate are described and discussed. A detailed summary of boundary condition modeling is carried out. It is proposed that the analytical method will be gradually rep… Show more

“…It is highly desirable to develop technical means to protect metal surfaces and achieve a long-term and efficient anticorrosion. So far, the approaches for protection of metal surfaces mainly include metal material alloying, corrosion inhibitor impregnation treatment, , cathodic protection, , coating protection, , etc. Among those, applying protective or barrier layers to isolate a metallic target item from the surroundings is widely considered as an efficient and popular approach to realize anticorrosion due to its simple operation.…”

“…Application of electrochemical protection reduces the corrosion rate of protected metals and favors the pH increase due to favorable oxygen reduction on the surface of the protected metal. Te application of internal electrochemical protection with sacrifcial anode is used in water tanks and reservoirs [10]. Moreover, cathodic protection of internal pipe surfaces is used in highly conductive media [11,12].…”

“…Data shows that the corrosion problem of oil storage tanks is becoming increasingly prominent (Pu, 2020; Wang, 2021; Kou et al , 2016), which seriously threatens the safe operation of storage tanks and stations (Xu, 2020; Gou et al , 2019). Due to the complex tank area, serious mutual interference-shielding phenomenon, huge grounding system and other characteristics, it is very difficult to protect the tank area from corrosion (Douglas and Mark, 2005).…”
