Research progress of metal–organic framework-based material activation of persulfate to degrade organic pollutants in water

Abstract: The research progress on the removal of pollutants in water by activation of persulfate (SR-AOPs) with different MOFs-based materials was reviewed. The catalytic mechanism of MOFs-based materials was analysed and the future development direction of this technology was prospected.

“…Water treatment involves physicochemical and biological methods 8 , 9 . Advanced technologies like adsorption, advanced oxidation (by efficient materials such as peroxodisulfate (PDS), peroxomonosulfate (PMS) or hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 )), flocculation, and filtration, along with innovative approaches like microbiological and electro-catalytic methods, have gained attention for water treatment 10 15 . Recent advances in environmental remediation have introduced novel techniques such as electrochemical and electro-phentonic methods for treating and quantifying COPs, offering efficient and precise approaches for their removal and measurement 16 18 .…”

“…Also, various metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have been explored for catalyzing the oxidation of organic pollutants, activated by compounds like PDS, PMS, or H 2 O 2 . Bimetallic MOFs surpass single-metal ones, improving oxidation efficiency, catalytic activity, stability, and control in peroxide activation 14 , 15 .…”
