Research Progress of Chinese Herbal MedicineRadix isatidis(Banlangen)

Abstract: Radix isatidis (R. isatidis) (Banlangen) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) famous for its broad antiviral activity. Its clinical medical history spans several thousands of years in China. Many scientists and scholars have conducted systematic research on this herb from its pharmacognosy to pharmaceuticals, especially in China. Through our research and literature reports, we inferred that the antiviral activity of R. isatidis mostly depended on the water-soluble part, including amino acids, IRPS, nucleosi… Show more

“…Its dried root named "Banlangen" in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is one of the topselling herbs in East Asian, due to the notable clinical treatment efficacy of influenza, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and novel swine-origin influenza A (H1N1) (Xiao et al, 2015). I. tinctoria root is commonly processed into two commercial pharmaceutical preparations, namely "Banlangen Keli" and "Banlangen Tangjiang", which can be sold as over-the-counter (OTC) drugs at the pharmacy (Zhou and Zhang, 2013). Phenylpropanoids (flavonoids and lignans) are thought to be primarily related to the outstanding pharmacological activity of I. tinctoria (Nguyen et al, 2017).…”

“…The purity of all compounds was above 98% which was determined by HPLC-DAD evaporative light-scattering detector (ELSD). The structures ( Figure 1) were elucidated by their ultraviolet (UV), infrared (IR), mass spectrometry (MS), 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), 13 C NMR and 2D NMR data. [10][11][12] Deionized water was prepared using a Millipore Milli-Q Plus system (Millipore, Bedford, MA).…”

“…It is well known that interactions of multiple chemical compounds contribute to the therapeutic effect of Chinese medicines (Lee et al, 2013;Zhou et al, 2013b;Gu et al, 2013). Therefore, the analysis of multiple components is necessary and helpful to control the quality of Chinese medicines (Dai et al, 2013;Shergis et al, 2013;Wu et al, 2013c;Zhou and Zhang, 2013). LC methods for simultaneous quantification of multiple components in Yinyanghuo are summarized in Table 2.…”
