Research on the SVC Auto-Compensating Method Based on the Variable Reactor

Abstract: The objective of this work is to research on a SVC auto-compensation method to improve the power factor of the power supply system. Firstly, the principles of the reactive power compensation of FC+TCR are analyzed qualitatively. According to the deficiencies of this compensator, a novel SVC auto-compensating method based on the variable reactor is presented. The reactor controlled by anti-parallel thyristors is namely as the variable reactor in this method. The secondary-side equivalent inductance of the varia… Show more

“…Therefore, the dynamic reactive power compensation method of the composite power load is proposed [1], and the dynamic reactive power compensator of the composite power load is developed [2]. In this paper, the reactive power variation characteristic of the composite power load is researched qualitatively, and the principle of dynamic reactive power compensation [3,4] is analyzed.…”

“…As a consequence of this, problems like voltage instability and fluctuations become very common due to the mismatch between the demand and supply of reactive power. Though, authors have advocated the use of capacitor banks to improve voltage stability and to compensate the reactive power in the process of SHHM soft-starting [4]- [8], the fixed capacitors fail to deliver the required amount of reactive power to the SHHM in order to stabilize the system voltage.…”
