Abstract: Phenolic resin-modified materials partially reduce the toughness of the wood. In this study, organic–inorganic composite modifiers were used to modify the wood. Silica sol/phenolic resin was prepared through in-situ polymerization, and poplar wood was modified using a vacuum pressure impregnation process, enhancing its toughness.
