Purpose. To explore the clinical application of Baihe Dihuang Decoction. To provide certain data support and theoretical basis for the clinical application of Baihe Dihuang Decoction in the future. Methods. With “Baihe Rehmannia Tang” as the search term, the search was carried out on CNKI, VIP, Wanfang, PubMed and other databases. The statistical analysis of Baihe Dihuang decoction for treating diseases was obtained. Meta-analysis of the data was performed using RevMan 5.3 software to analyze the main therapeutic indicators of the disease. Results. According to the 83 valid literature that can be found, it is shown that 17 are used for the treatment of depression, 14 are used for the treatment of menopausal syndrome, 24 are used for the treatment of insomnia, and 28 are used for the treatment of other diseases. Conclusion. In the treatment of depression, menopausal syndrome, and insomnia combined with Baihe Dihuang Decoction can have a better therapeutic effect and diminish the incidence of adverse reactions. It provides a theoretical basis for the study and experimental study of its active components.

Introduction: Scientific information on the antidepressant effectiveness of the varied usual therapeutic interventions is considerable but of poor quality. Objective: To analyse the scientifically well qualified international contributions on the effectiveness of habitual psychobiological psychiatric interventions in depressive disorders. Method: N= 6 structured bibliographic systems have been reviewed in a non-systematic, narrative and synthetic way and N= 75 significant contributions have been selected. Results and discussion: Patients with severe depression are more likely to receive any type of medical attention, but less likely to receive adequate attention. The use of both drugs and psychotherapy is the habitual mixed combined intervention during any ordinary psychiatric treatment. We will call it psychobiological or psychopharmacological intervention. The exclusive psychological intervention without using any medically prescribed drugs, is likely to be less cost/effective. The matter is not only to prioritise but also to adequately combine psychiatric interventions and added psychological interventions when convenient. The intervention on the neurophysiological pathways related with glutamate, the GABAergic, opioidergic, and inflammatory systems as well as on connectome and microbiome are being promoted for future drug antidepressant therapy with encouraging results. Conclusion: The mixed psychiatric option using drugs and psychotherapy, either regulated or not, by the intervening psychiatrist himself or herself is probably the main therapeutic choice for the correctly diagnosed depressive disorders. The psychotherapeutics intervention excluding the psychobiological psychiatric intervention in correctly diagnosed depressions will be insufficient in general. The professional psychological intervention may obviously complement the mixed psychiatric intervention, but can not replace it.

Mental health disorders research in the countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), 2008–17, and the disease burden: Bibliometric study

The 57 countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation are suffering from an increasing burden from mental health disorders. We investigated their research outputs during 2008–17 in the Web of Science in order to compare them with the burden from different mental health disorders and in different countries. The papers were identified with a complex filter based on title words and journals. Their addresses were parsed to give fractional country counts, show international collaboration, and also reveal country concentration on individual disorders and types of research. We found 17,920 papers in the decade, with output quadrupling. Foreign contributions accounted for 15% of addresses; they were from Europe (7%), Canada + USA (5%) and elsewhere (3%). They were much greater for Qatar and Uganda (> 60%), but less than 10% for Iran and Turkey. Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder were over-researched, but suicide and self-harm were seriously neglected, relative to their mental health disorder burdens. Although OIC research has been expanding rapidly, some countries have published little on this subject, perhaps because of stigma. Turkey collaborates relatively little internationally and as a result its papers received few citations. Among the large OIC countries, it has almost the highest relative mental health disorders burden, which is also growing rapidly.
