Research on the correlation between corona current spectrum and audible noise spectrum of HVDC transmission line

Abstract: Audible noise is closely related to corona current on a high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line. In this paper, we measured a large amount of audible noise and corona current waveforms simultaneously based on the largest outdoor HVDC corona cage all over the world. By analyzing the experimental data, the related statistical regularities between a corona current spectrum and an audible noise spectrum were obtained. Furthermore, the generation mechanism of audible noise was analyzed theoretically, a… Show more

“…Meanwhile, it has been found that it is hard to discover the laws with the general spectrum of corona current because the amplitude at a single‐frequency point fluctuates obviously. While, 1/3 OPS, which expresses the total power in different frequency bands, can overcome the above shortcomings [26, 30]. Therefore, the 1/3 OPS of corona current can also avoid errors brought up by single‐frequency point.…”

“…Gas discharge is a common phenomenon existing in nature and industrial fields and can bring inevitable interruption as well as serious damage to electronic equipment [1,2]. However, the emission from gas discharge, especially the RF electromagnetic pulses (EMPs), has an extensive use in many applications, such as plasma density measurement, partial discharge detection, and lightning locating [3,4].…”

“…In the literature [22], audible noise and corona current signals in corona cage were measured at the same time, and found out that the audible noise signals and corona current signals appeared together when corona discharges and this phenomenon can be used to measurement corona onset voltage. The literature [23,24] investigated the mechanism of audible noise caused by corona based on the motion of electron. The literature [25] analysed the correlation between audible noise and DC corona current quantitatively based on the experiments, and obtained many meaningful research results.…”
