“…For small spindle cusp devices the confinement times have been r-0.1-1 ms. Little distinction has been made experimentally between particle confinement and energy confinement. For ring cusps the conhement time is assumed to scale roughly in accordance with equation (40) zdie = 0.09TeiaR/pbp,. (40) This equation predicts z d i p 0.8 ms for Jupiter-2M parameters of table 2.…”

(40) This equation predicts z d i p 0.8 ms for Jupiter-2M parameters of table 2. The experimentally measured co&nement time was 2-3 ms. (If the central electron temperature were higher than d e 15 eV reported from a Langmuir probe under the magnet coils, then the theroretical zdin would be longer.)…”

“…This cold-plasma beam is prepared outside the trap in special gas-discharge sources. The high thermal conductivity of electrons in the direction of the magnetic field then ensures that their temperature is equal to the electron temperature of the plasma outside the trap, but is small in comparison with the value given by (18). Accordingly, since the ion slowing down time r?…”
