“…Later, Li et al 23 proposed a forming process of multi-gripper flexible stretch forming (MGFSF), in which Pascal's law of multi-cylinder hydraulic system, strain hardening, and minimal resistance force of the material are employed. 24,25 Wrinkling or the problem of conformability of sheet metal to the desired shape is prone to occur when forming workpieces with small transverse curvature radius, since the sheet metal in MGFSF conforms to the shape of the forming die under longitudinal tension and transverse compression of itself. Therefore, although MGFSF has been used successfully in producing large skin parts with medium curvatures, it is inapplicable to produce large skin parts with small or complex curvatures.…”

“…In the authors' previous works, Li et al studied the MGFSF machine and explained the application of this technology [1]. Chen et al investigated the effects of the length of the transition zone, the gripper number and the clamping mode on the forming results, and pointed out that the sheet metal can get the desired shape with a shorter transition zone than the traditional stretch forming which not only increased the material utilization but also improved the forming quality [2][3][4]. Peng et al investigated two types of MGFSF machine using finite element method, and pointed out that the sheet metal can be shaped with a shorter transition zone with the front drawing type compared to the back drawing type [5].…”

“…In order to solve this problem, adjustable clamp stretching machine was developed by ACB of France [8], but the machine needs to manually adjust the arc of sub-clamp based on the shape of stretching die, which leads to low forming precision and efficiency. So, a new type of flexible clamp stretch forming (FCSF) machine was designed by Dieless Forming Technology Center of Jilin University [9], which use discrete grippers substitute for integral structure grippers. The purpose of this paper is to investigate and understand the character of flexible clamp multi-point stretch forming (FCMPSF).…”
