Research on Joint Protection Layers and Gas Prevention Technology in Outburst Coal Seams

Abstract: Outburst closed distance coal seam distances are extremely difficult to mine, and are commonly involved in safety accidents in the process of mining. Based on the engineering background of the Wulan Coal Mine at the western margin of the Ordos Basin, this paper presents a theoretical analysis, engineering analogies, and numerical simulations to determine the optimal mining sequence for the Wulan Coal Mine #7, #8, #2, and #3 coal seams. Floor penetration drilling was used to eliminate outbursts in the #7 and #8… Show more

“…According to the existing research results, it can be known that the stress redistribution of surrounding rock caused by mining has great influences on the development of cracks in the roof and overlying strata, gas desorption, and seepage in coal seams. In the process of coal mining, the mining stress changes, and the overlying strata move and fracture under the influence of mining, accompanied by the development and evolution of mining cracks [10][11][12], and then the gas migrates in the cracks [13]. Therefore, it is the foundation and key to studying the stress distribution characteristics and crack evolution laws of the surrounding rock.…”

“…The massive methane existing in coal seams will be released into mining space once its initial state changes, resulting in combustion and explosion when the methane concentration reaches a certain range, also causing severe damage and loss of life [9]. Successfully, lots of investigations have been carried out and numerous breakthroughs have been taken [4,[9][10][11][12][13], the timely degassing from coal seams gradually becomes the main means of preventing outbursts and methane explosions. Moreover, the understanding that outburst is dependent on the physicomechanical properties of coal, in situ stresses, and gas adsorption has been commonly adopted.…”
