Objective To investigate the motivation, attitude, and practice toward mentoring and related factors among clinical nursing mentors. Methods This cross-sectional study included clinical nursing mentors from 30 hospitals in Zhejiang Province between August and September 2023. Demographic information, motivation, attitude, and practice were collected through a self-administered questionnaire. Results A total of 495 valid questionnaires were collected, and most of the participants were 30–39 years old (68.7%). Average motivation, attitude, and practice scores were 29 [26, 32] (possible range: 8–40), 87 (82, 94) (possible range: 22–110), and 41 (38, 45) (possible range: 11–55), respectively. Correlation analyses showed that the motivation scores were positively correlated with attitude scores (r = 0.498, P < 0.001) and practice scores (r = 0.408, P = 0.001), while attitude scores were positively correlated with practice scores (r = 0.554, P < 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression showed that intermediate and senior nursing mentors (OR = 0.638, 95% CI: [0.426–0.956], P = 0.030) and different hospitals (OR = 1.627, 95% CI: [1.054–2.511], P = 0.028) were independently associated with motivation. The hospital’s frequency of psychological care was a significant factor associated with nursing mentoring motivation, attitude, and practice. Participation in training (OR = 2.908, 95% CI: [1.430, 5.913], P = 0.003) and lower frequency of job evaluation in hospital (“Often”: OR = 0.416, 95% CI: [0.244–0.709], P = 0.001 and “Sometimes”: OR = 0.346, 95% CI: [0.184–0.650], P = 0.001) were independently associated with practice. Conclusion Clinical nursing mentors had adequate motivation, positive attitude, and proactive practice towards mentoring and associated factors. Clinical nursing mentorship should be enhanced by prioritizing mentor training, fostering a supportive environment with consistent psychological care, and promoting structured mentorship activities.

Background The study explores an innovative teaching mode that integrates Icourse, DingTalk, and online experimental simulation platforms to provide online theoretical and experimental resources for clinical biochemistry practical courses. These platforms, combined with flipped classroom teaching, aim to increase student engagement and benefit in practical courses, ultimately improving the effectiveness of clinical biochemistry practical teaching. Methods In a prospective cohort study, we examined the impact of integrating the Icourse and DingTalk platforms to provide theoretical knowledge resources and clinical cases to 48 medical laboratory science students from the 2019 and 2020 grades. Students were assigned to the experimental group using an overall sampling method, and had access to relevant videos through Icourse before and during class. Using a flipped classroom approach, students actively participated in the design, analysis, and discussion of the experimental technique. For the experimental operation part, students participated in virtual simulation experiments and actual experiments. Overall, the study aimed to evaluate students’ theoretical and operational performance after completing the practical course. To collect feedback, we distributed a questionnaire to students in the experimental group. For comparison, we included 42 students from the grades of 2017 and 2018 who received traditional instruction and were evaluated using standard textbooks as the control group. Results The experimental group scored significantly higher than the control group on both the theoretical and experimental operational tests (82.45 ± 3.76 vs. 76.36 ± 3.96, P = 0.0126; 92.03 ± 1.62 vs. 81.67 ± 4.19, P < 0.001). The survey revealed that the experimental group preferred the teaching mode that combined the flipped classroom with the virtual simulation platform. This mixed method effectively promoted understanding of basic knowledge (93.8%, 45/48), operative skills (89.6%, 43/48), learning interest (87.5%, 42/48), clinical thinking (85.4%, 41/48), self-learning ability (91.7%, 44/48), and overall satisfaction compared with traditional methods (P < 0.05). This study demonstrates that an innovative teaching approach significantly improves the quality of clinical biochemistry practical courses and promotes students’ professional development and self-directed learning habits. Conclusion Incorporating virtual simulation with flipped classrooms into clinical biochemistry practical teaching is an efficient and well-received alternative to traditional methods.

Background Medical education needs to strengthen its focus on improving the humanistic quality of medical students while improving their medical knowledge and skills. This study aims to identify and integrate the current literature and research hotspots on raising medical students' humanistic literacy to provide a reference for researchers. Methods CiteSpace is a Java application which supports visual exploration with knowledge discovery in bibliographic databases. We searched the China Knowledge Network (CNKI) database for articles published between 1995 and 2022. "Humanistic quality of medical students" was the key search term. Titles and abstracts were screened and extracted according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The CiteSpace software was used to retrieve 941 humanistic quality journal articles geared toward medical students from the CNKI database up to April 2022. A comprehensive review was conducted on these articles to reveal the current situation and hotspots of research aimed at improving medical students’ humanistic quality. Results The study found that the number of publications on humanities literacy research for medical students has increased overall over the past 20 years, although a certain graph shows an inverted S-shaped fluctuation. Research on improving the humanistic quality of Chinese medical students is predominantly conducted by medical colleges. No single author or institutional core group dominates the field of research on medical students' humanistic qualities. The main study focuses on humanistic qualities, medical students, higher vocational students, and higher vocational colleges. Conclusion Based on the research trends of medical students' humanistic literacy, combined with CiteSpace’s visual knowledge maps, this study provides an in-depth understanding of the main authors, institutions, and research hotspots in humanistic literacy for medical students. The information in this study is most valuable to researchers interested in medical student education. This study summarizes the current development and ideological foundations of humanistic literacy among medical students in China. This study helps researchers to grasp the scientific development and research issues in the field of humanistic literacy of medical students in China.
