Research on Generalized RQD of Rock Mass Based on 3D Slope Model Established by Digital Close-Range Photogrammetry

Abstract: The traditional method of obtaining rock quality designation (RQD) cannot fully reflect the anisotropy of the rock mass and thus cannot accurately reflect its quality. In the method of calculating RQD based on three-dimensional network simulation of discontinuities, due to the limited number of samples and low accuracy of discontinuity data obtained by manual contact measurement, a certain deviation in the network is generated based on the data, which has an impact on the calculation result. Taking a typical s… Show more

“…Ding et al [4] took a typical slope in the Dongsheng quarry in Changchun City as an example; in this study, we obtained the discontinuity data of the slope based on digital close-range photogrammetry, which greatly enlarged the sample size of discontinuity data and improved the data quality. Based on the rock mass's heterogeneity, the optimum discontinuity spacing threshold was determined when surveying lines were laid parallel to different coordinate axes to calculate the generalized RQD, and the influence of measuring blank areas on the slope caused by vegetation coverage or gravel accumulation was eliminated.…”

“…When measuring the joints of high-risk rock mass, surveyors are jeopardized. As a result, numerous scholars [36,[47][48][49] have begun to adopt non-contact measurement technologies such as 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry to collect rock discontinuity data and verify their accuracy in recent years. Close-range photogrammetry is applied to acquire rock discontinuity data from a fresh outcrop in the study area.…”

“…In recent years, the fracture network model has been extended from two dimensions to three dimensions. Several researchers [34][35][36] have investigated the spatial effect of the RQD in the model by varying the length and orientation of the virtual borehole. Compared to other techniques, fracture network simulation technology considers various influencing factors of the RQD as input parameters, reflecting the distribution of fractures within the rock mass in a reasonable way.…”

“…The RQD value was first defined for rock core logging, and later extended to rock surfaces analysis [21,22]. In this paper we focus exclusively on rock core analysis.…”
