Research on flexural behavior of composite box continuous girder with corrugated steel webs and trusses

Abstract: A new type of composite structure, the composite box girder with corrugated steel webs (CSWs) and trusses, is proposed recently. In order to investigate the structural behavior under positive and negative bending moments, flexural tests of the continuous girder were carried out, and the failure modes, deformation patterns, strain distribution, and development of the concrete cracks were investigated. Finite element analysis was conducted to investigate the effect of the range of concrete in the steel tube and … Show more

“…Based on references (Chen et al, 2019;Chen et al, 2020;Dong et al, 2021), the constitutive model of the concrete employed in composite girders with CSW-CFST truss chords could be simulated using equation ( 2), where f c represents the compressive strength of the concrete, and ε 0 represents the strain corresponding to f c , generally taken as 2 × 10 À3 . The constitutive model of the steel and the rebar can be simulated by equation ( 3), where E s and f y represent the elastic modulus and yield strength of the steel, respectively.…”

“…Chen et al (2019) and Chen et al (2020) proposed appropriate calculation and evaluation methods accounting for the shear 1 College of Civil Eng, Fuzhou University, China 2 Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory on Multi-Disasters Prevention and Mitigation in Civil Engineering, Fuzhou University, China lag effect and flexural bearing capacity of such composite structures based on the test results and finite element analysis (FEA). Dong et al (2021) examined their flexural behavior in positive and negative bending moment regions, focusing on continuous structures by combining model tests and FEA. Real bridges, especially curved bridges, were indicated to be vulnerable to combined flexure and torsion under the action of vehicle loads (Tan & Uy, 2009a, 2009bZhang et al, 2015;Ecsedi and Lengyel 2019;Liu et al, 2021).…”

“…Lu and Ji (2018) introduced two methods to optimize and upgrade the traditional prestressed concrete composite box girders with CSWs. Dong et al (2021) proposed the equations to calculate the flexural bearing capacity under positive and negative bending moments for box girders with CSWs and trusses.…”
