Research on factors affecting fretting fatigue life of high‐temperature dovetail tenon

Abstract: This paper takes the dovetail structure of an aero‐engine compressor as the research object, designs a high‐temperature dovetail fretting fatigue test, and discusses the effect of high temperature on fretting fatigue damage. Based on the fretting fatigue continuous damage accumulation model, a high‐temperature fretting fatigue life prediction model of dovetail tenon considering the temperature effect is proposed and verified by experiments. The results show that the experimental data prove that the model has g… Show more

“…Fatigue is the main cause of some mechanical failures, such as vehicles and turbine blades of aero-engines. [1][2][3][4][5][6] Before fatigue failure occurs, the surfaces of turbine blades usually do not exhibit obvious features. Therefore, the influence of fatigue failure on turbine blades should be considered when designing mechanical structures.…”

“…However, due to the concealed nature of fretting cracks within the contact surface, it is challenging to measure the local stress near the crack using strain gauges, and accurately capturing the crack initiation stage is difficult. Furthermore, fretting cracks are influenced by numerous factors, such as the fatigue load and geometric shape of the specimen 16 . Consequently, investigating multi‐site fretting crack initiation in press‐fitted axles solely through fatigue tests presents challenges.…”
