Research on Driving Factors of Forest Ecological Security: Evidence from 12 Provincial Administrative Regions in Western China

Abstract: Forests are associated with countrywide ecological security, and there are significant differences in the forests of different regions. Based on the DPSIR model, 25 indicators were selected from five dimensions to determine the index system, and the entropy-weighted TOPSIS method and gray correlation were applied to determine the index of western China’s forests. The spatial distribution map was used to observe the spatial changes of forests. The results show that first, Inner Mongolia (0.466) has the best for… Show more

“…The data which we utilized were obtained from various statistical yearbooks. It should be noted that: (1) The total forestry output value of Heilongjiang includes that of Daxing 'anling; (2) to avoid the impact of price changes, all price data used in the article are comparable price indices (with 2006 as the reference year); and (3) the spatial weight matrix for spatial effects was derived from the reciprocal matrix of spatial Euclidean distances.…”

“…Forests are ecosystems with the largest areas on land. They can not only provide basic resource guarantees but also have the ecological functions of water conservation and biodiversity maintenance [1]. In the mid-1990s, due to the needs of national development and the planned economic regime, the production and supply of timber was the primary task of China's forestry [2,3].…”

“…The advantage of the entropy weighting method is that it can consider the uncertainty and importance of the criteria to reasonably determine their weight. By calculating the information entropy of the criterion, the entropy weight method can quantify the degree of uncertainty of the criterion, which makes the weight assignment more scientific and objective [48,49]. Compared with other commonly used weight determination methods, the entropy weight method can better cope with the uncertainty of weights and improve the reliability and rationality of the results [50,51].…”

“…For example, Ref. [36] developed a forest model based on the DPSIR framework to investigate the significant differences in forest presence and sulfur dioxide emissions (P2) across various regions. Ref.…”
