Research on corrosion rate assessment of buried pipelines under dynamic metro stray current

Abstract: To provide a reference for the evaluation of corrosion rate under dynamic metro stray current, both simulated experiments in laboratory and coupon tests in the field were conducted to explore the corrosion behavior and the relationship between corrosion rates and dynamic DC interference parameters of buried pipelines. The results show that the dynamic period has a significant influence on the corrosion rate and the ratio of actual corrosion rate to the theoretical corrosion rate. The statistical data of pipe t… Show more

“…Corrosion monitoring of pipeline systems is always very important to ensure the safety production and transportation in the multiple industries, such as oil and gas, water supply, and chemical processing. The traditional method is usually to employ the corrosion coupons to estimate the corrosion rate [1,2]. However, this method is time consuming and labor intensive due to the periodically measurement, and it is difficult to realize the on-line monitoring.…”

“…Traditional pipeline corrosion monitoring methods usually monitor corrosion by measuring the mass loss of corrosion specimens [2,3], which is time-consuming and labor-intensive and does not allow for online monitoring. Another type of monitoring method monitors the corrosion process by electrochemical principles, including resistance probes [4], halfcell potential method [5] and others.…”
