Research on complex air leakage method to prevent coal spontaneous combustion in longwall goaf

Abstract: Spontaneous combustion of coal is one of the major hazards threatening production safety during longwall mining. Mining-induced voids, which provide passages for air leakage, are the key factor triggering spontaneous combustion of coal in longwall goafs. In this study, a comprehensive method, which combined pressure balance, grouting injection, and filling fissures, was proposed to prevent spontaneous combustion of coal in longwall goafs with complex air leakage. Field engineering practice was carried out in S… Show more

“…In addition, dame sheets should be arranged outside the block wall and at the corner of the transportation roadway and the ventilation roadway of working face #10414. The anchor cable parts should be removed to fully cave the top coal at the corner of the roadway, reduce air leakage, and prevent heat accumulation (Figure ) …”

[49][50][51][52][53][54] 6 | CONCLUSIONS In this paper, for the situation where the roof caving strength in a deep coal seam mine is relatively high, we analyze the relationship between the LDRC and CSC in the gob. In addition, we present a calculation model for CSC based on porosity and use working face #10414 in the Yangliu coal mine as an example to verify the correctness of the ASM.…”

“…When injecting nitrogen, the nitrogen does not remain in a fixed position for a long time and is easy to spread with airflow, which results in the risk of suffocation. 10 So, the effect of extinguishing and cooling in coal oxidation by injecting nitrogen is unsatisfactory. In grouting, the slurry flows to the low-lying zone and does not keep in the upper parts in the goaf.…”

“…Inert gases (N 2 and CO 2 ), grouting, foam, or gel have been used to prevent fires in coal mines. When injecting nitrogen, the nitrogen does not remain in a fixed position for a long time and is easy to spread with airflow, which results in the risk of suffocation 10 . So, the effect of extinguishing and cooling in coal oxidation by injecting nitrogen is unsatisfactory.…”
