Research on a method for designing land surfaces of a dual-cone double enveloping hourglass worm wheel hob

Abstract: Cutting teeth of a dual-cone double enveloping hourglass worm wheel hob retain land surfaces with a certain width to increase the service life of the hob because this kind of hob cannot be re-sharpened. The land widths from the top to the root of all of the cutting teeth should be uniform so that all of them have the same cutting performance. However, the accuracy and the uniformity of the land width of the land surface of hob with spiral rake faces have not been studied till now. To solve this problem, this p… Show more

“…The land edges are the starting line of the relief surfaces, and its can be obtained by offsetting the rake face with a land width. 30 Point P r is on the land edge, its coordinates in the coordinate system σ 1 are ( r 1 ) 1 = [ x 1 , y 1 , z 1 ] T . When grinding the relief surface, the rotating angle of point P r around the C axis is φ C .…”

“…The conjugated movement mentioned above is also called the relative motion between worm blank and cutting tools. In typical cases, we defined the corresponding movement based on the location and motion relationship between the hourglass worm and its worm gear (Chen et al, 2016;Rui et al, 2018).…”
