Experiments were conducted to pilot the initial reduction in chromium raw materials using the innovative Hoganas technology in a tunnel furnace. To simulate the process, a gas-fired bogie hearth furnace was employed. Technological containers made of silicon carbide crucibles were utilized. Sixteen different combinations of ore and coal mixtures were employed for the initial reduction process. Their total mass was more than 20 tons. Their heat treatment was performed at different temperatures and durations. During the pilot tests, the possibility of achieving chromium metallization was confirmed. Thus, it explains the application of a pre-reduction instead of the sintering or charge heating before the ferrochromium melting, i.e., the power consumption is minimized during the final remelting of the product in DC furnaces. The pilot melting of three batches of the pre-reduced chromium raw materials with various chromium metallization degrees has been tested in the ore-smelting furnace at Zh. Abishev Chemical–Metallurgical Institute (Karaganda). The capacity was 0.2 MVA. To evaluate the technical and economic efficiency of remelting pre-reduced chromium raw materials in commercial DC furnaces, a specific batch of primary ingredients for producing high-carbon ferrochromium, including chromite ore, coke, and quartz flux, was successfully melted in a segregated phase. As a result of the study, it was found that the specific energy consumption for melting high-carbon ferrochromium in the pilot furnace depends on the chromium metallization degree. The researchers tested a range of chromium metallization degrees from 0 to 65% and determined the corresponding specific energy consumption for each degree. Using the data obtained from the study, the researchers were able to assess the melting indexes of high-carbon ferrochromium in a larger 72 MW furnace. They found that by using a pre-reduced product with a chromium metallization degree of 65%, it was possible to reduce the specific energy consumption by half, to around 3.4 MW·h per ton of chromium. Overall, this study highlights the importance of considering the chromium metallization degree when determining the specific energy consumption for melting high-carbon ferrochromium. By optimizing the metallization degree, significant energy savings can be achieved, leading to more efficient and sustainable production processes.

This paper presents the results of a study and analysis of the effect of modifying low-chromium hypoeutectic cast iron with a new boron–barium ferroalloy on its properties—wear resistance and impact resistance—in comparison with traditional boron- and barium-containing additives. The uniqueness and novelty of the work lies in the study of the nature of changes in the structure and wear-resistant properties of low-chromium cast iron as a result of its modifying treatment with a new boron–barium ferroalloy. In a laboratory electric resistance furnace, low-chromium cast iron was melted, and four batches of prototypes were cast. Samples of the first batch, for subsequent comparison, were made without modification. When casting the remaining three batches of samples, the cast iron was modified with three different additives: ferroboron FeB12, ferrosilicobarium FeSi60Ba20, and a new complex boron–barium modifier. In order to compare the degree of effectiveness of the applied modifiers, a metallographic analysis of the structure was performed, hardness measurements were performed on the surface of the samples, and they were subjected to abrasion and cyclic shock-dynamic impact tests. In all cases, when modifying cast iron, there was an increase in hardness, a noticeable grinding of the microstructure, and a redistribution of structural components towards an increase in the proportion of perlite and finely dispersed ledeburite. A comparative analysis of the results of testing samples for dry friction and shock showed a higher surface resistance of cast samples made of modified cast iron compared to unmodified low-chromium cast iron of the same composition. A comparative study of the parameters of wear tracks and craters on damaged surfaces established that the most optimal combination of wear-resistant qualities of low-chromium cast iron occurs when it is treated with a complex boron–barium modifier, which is also evidenced by obtaining a more favorable microstructure.

Аннотация. На основе справочных термодинамических данных построена четырехкомпонентная система Fe-Zr-Al-Si и создана ее математическая модель фазовой структуры. В результате выяснилась, что она состоит из 12 элементарных тетраэдров. Для каждого из тетраэдров определены аналитические уравнения, с помощью которых можно установить месторасположение в факторном пространстве общей системы составы различных металлических расплавов с вычислением их нормативных фазовых составов.Разбивка общей системы осуществлена с учетом конгруэнтных соединений. Совокупность условных объемов элементарных тетраэдров одинакова единице (1,00000), который подтверждает неизменность проведенной тетраэдрации.Установлены квазиобъемы в системе Fe-Zr-Al-Si, моделирующие составы образующихся металлических продуктов при выплавке различных ферросиликоциркониевых сплавов в процессе восстановления. В результате выяснилось, что сплав с содержанием 25% Zr моделируется тетраэдром Si-Fe2Al5-FeSi2-Zr6Si5, а составы сплава с 35 и 50% Zr, распложены в тетраэдрах Si-Fe2Al5-FeSi2-Zr6Si5 и Zr5Si3-Fe-Fe2Al5-FeSi, соответственно.
