The occurrence of any kind of natural disaster will eventually lead to the loss of life and property. Countries where such disasters occur make every effort to monitor such disasters and aid as quickly as possible. However, in some cases, a rescue cannot be sent because no information is available to initiate any type of rescue operation. This is usually because common disaster management systems (DMS) use on board or ground networks to route information from the disaster scene to rescue headquarters (HQ), which in most cases cannot provide the information efficiently. One effective approach is to use satellites in conjunction with existing air-to-ground systems. This study provides a comprehensive and systematic overview of the complexities of the space-air-ground integrated network (SAGIN) in disaster management applications, including different architectures and protocols. The main rationale behind this review is to provide an extensive analysis of existing disaster management systems that are making use of SAGIN. This paper also presents the taxonomy for disaster management systems and challenges. Moreover, this research work also highlights open research issues and challenges for any type of disaster scenario. Our results indicate that several challenges are faced by disaster management systems such as hardware-based challenges, network-based characteristics and communication protocols related challenges, availability and accuracy of imagery data, and security and privacy issues.

Aerial ad-hoc networks have the potential to enable smart services while maintaining communication between the ground system and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). Previous research has focused on enabling aerial data-centric smart services while integrating the benefits of aerial objects such as UAVs in hostile and non-hostile environments. Quality of service (QoS) provisioning in UAV-assisted communication is a challenging research theme in aerial ad-hoc networks environments. Literature on aerial ad hoc networks lacks cooperative service-oriented modeling for distributed network environments, relying on costly static base station-oriented centralized network environments. Towards this end, this paper proposes a quality of service provisioning framework for a UAV-assisted aerial ad hoc network environment (QSPU) focusing on reliable aerial communication. The UAV’s aerial mobility and service parameters are modelled considering highly dynamic aerial ad-hoc environments. UAV-centric mobility models are utilized to develop a complete aerial routing framework. A comparative performance evaluation demonstrates the benefits of the proposed aerial communication framework. It is evident that QSPU outperforms the state-of-the-art techniques in terms of a number of service-oriented performance metrics in a UAV-assisted aerial ad-hoc network environment.

The information transmission path optimization (ITPO) can often affect the efficiency and accuracy of remanufacturing service. However, there is a greater degree of uncertainty and complexity in information transmission of remanufacturing service system, which leads to a critical need for designing planning models to deal with this added uncertainty and complexity. In this paper, a three-dimensional (3D) model of remanufacturing service information network for information transmission is developed, which combines the physic coordinate and the transmitted properties of all the devices in the remanufacturing service system. In order to solve the basic ITPO in the 3D model, an improved 3D ant colony algorithm (Improved AC) was put forward. Moreover, to further improve the operation efficiency of the algorithm, an improved ant colony-genetic algorithm (AC-GA) that combines the improved AC and genetic algorithm was developed. In addition, by taking the transmission of remanufacturing service demand information of certain roller as example, the effectiveness of AC-GA algorithm was analyzed and compared with that of improved AC, and the results demonstrated that AC-GA algorithm was superior to AC algorithm in aspects of information transmission delay, information transmission cost, and rate of information loss.
