This article considers the results of research conducted to define the impact of information technology (IT) on the development of regional transport systems (TS) within the subjects of the Russian Federation. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of digitalization on transport systems and to assess its economic consequences. Methods of analytical modelling, ranging and spatial differentiation are used. The differentiated recommendations are offered for cities, agglomerations and regions for assessing the economic consequences of transport digitalization.

In this paper, the author’s research work is focused on infrastructure impact on railway transportation system reliability. The aim of research described in the paper is to determine correlation between type (and age) of used infrastructure elements, and number of occurring failures. For this purpose, subsystem of infrastructure and associated with it events, were divided into main groups. Examples of groups are: track, train operation devices (related to operating control points or railway line), level crossings, etc. The second aspect is correlation between type of infrastructure and failure consequences. It is required from transportation that it is possible to achieve the right place at the right time in a safety way. Therefore, from the point of view of transportation process, which is the main goal of transportation system, the most significant failure consequences are delays. Moreover, speaking about reliability and safety of railway transportation system, the question arises what is the relation between number of trains and number of unwanted events?

The analysis of the reliability and availability of the data transmission system within the integral railway system is realized through the modeling of the system, i.e. its conditions and their connections. According to the defined measure of safety of the International union of railways (UIC) i.e. its committee ORE, defined by recommendations A 158 and A 124/RP, based on previous experience and the achieved level of technical development, we can estimate an acceptable value for the probabilities of certain conditions of the integral railway system and data transmission system. In the paper, the reliability and availability analysis was modeled using the Markov model for data transmission in the railway system with four conditions, for: correct system condition, presence of disturbances in the system, illegal (dangerous) system condition and system blocking condition. The validity for the application of process development modeling the reliability and availability of data transmission in the railway system will contribute to reducing the risk of inadmissible (dangerous) failures, improving maintenance planning and spare parts planning, moving from maintenance by time to maintenance by condition and reducing exploitation costs.
