Research and application of space-time behavior maps: a review

Abstract: Today, in the space-time big data environment, the research into behavior maps, as an important spatial analysis and behavior visualization method, has gradually increased in dimension, depth and breadth. In this study, we used the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database and the Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection database as the main literature search engines, through the literature review, the behavior maps analysis type, visual expression, and its method evolution are summarized. And we use… Show more

“…This study used space-centered behavioral mapping to observe the behavioral patterns occurring on the site. Behavioral mapping is a powerful tool to understand humans’ relationship with their surroundings, especially in the built environment, and has been widely used in studies on time geography, post occupancy evaluation, and public open spaces [ 42 ]. The observation was conducted four times in four different time periods in November 2022 to gain wide data coverage.…”

“…We therefore opted to design investigation protocols combining several methodological approaches. Our choice to study user behaviour refers to the work of Moser and Karine (2003), and Zhang et al (2020). These authors indicate that the study of human behaviour should be based on direct observation, mapping of users' gestures, movements and photography at different times of the day, using a paper: the map.…”

“…Perceived safety risk is higher during evening hours than daytime hours. Women are generally more concerned about their safety than men, especially in less open or unstable areas (Zhang et al, 2021).…”
