Research advances and trends in the surgical treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome from 2003 to 2022: A CiteSpace-based bibliometric analysis

Abstract: BackgroundCarpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is one of the most common peripheral neuropathies. The typical symptoms are tingling and numbness in the median nerve distribution of the hand. Current treatment for CTS includes general conservative treatment and surgical treatment. Surgical treatment plays a crucial role in the management of CTS, but little bibliometric analysis has been conducted on it. Therefore, this study aimed to map the literature co-citation network using CiteSpace (6.1 R4) software. Research fro… Show more

“…The larger the node size, the more commonly the keyword appears. The lines between nodes indicate the association of keywords [34,35]. Betweenness centrality is an index that measures the importance of nodes in the network, and CiteSpace uses this index to identify and quantify the status of authors, institutions, and keywords in academic collaboration and information dissemination [36].…”

“…Generally speaking, if the silhouette value of a certain cluster is over 0.5, the cluster obtained is considered reasonable. If the silhouette value is over 0.7, the cluster obtained is considered credible and meets the analysis requirements [35,38].…”

“…However, the application of electrodiagnostic examination (EDx), imaging (especially ultrasound and magnetic resonance), lab tests, genetic tests, and nerve or skin biopsy allows the diagnostic definition and the therapeutic decision [ 25 , 26 , 27 ]. Treatment can be divided into surgical and conservative [ 28 ]. Surgery is mandatory in cases of neurotmesis, severe compressions, tumors, and if functional corrections are not possible in alternative ways (for example, tendon elongation or transposition).…”
