“…Similar to our result, Xu et al () also found that upregulation in StAR, 3β‐HSD and 17β‐HSD transcripts in the ovary of female zebrafish treated with Tris (2‐butoxyethyl) phosphate. Additionally, many reports are in concordance to our result that upregulation of 3β‐HSD and 17β‐HSD transcripts in the female gonad of zebrafish exposed to azoxystrobin (Cao et al, ) while StAR and 17β‐HSD in ibuprofen and mefenamic acid exposed gonad (Ji, Liu, et al, ). Thus, an increase in the transcript level of StAR, 3β‐HSD and 17β‐HSD in our study could reveal the biphasic effect of ZEA in HPG axis disruption.…”

“…However, a significant decrease in GSI was observed in higher-dose ZEA-exposed zebrafish. Similarly, Cao et al (2016) found no changes in HSI and a significant reduction in GSI of female zebrafish exposed to azoxystrobin. Moreover, Ji, Hong, Kho, and Choi (2013) also report a significant decrease in GSI had been reported in bisphenol S-exposed zebrafish.…”

“…Gonadotropin hormones include follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), acting on the gonads to direct steroidogenesis as well as gametogenesis . Growing evidence demonstrates that endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) can disrupt the steroidogenesis pathway and adversely affect reproduction in fish. , Recent studies have found that cholesterol was significantly decreased in zebrafish after 21 d exposure of 1.0 mg/L boscalid, which may affect the downstream synthesis of steroid hormones in zebrafish. , …”
