“…Although whether the preparation was used precoitally or postcoitally was left to the couples' preference, with no randomization, there was no difference in pregnancy rates between the 2 subgroups. The couples' acceptance of the method was very high probably because of this possibility of choice, and also because bee products are well known to our society for their uses in nutrition, reproduction enhancement [3–13], the treatment of infections of the lower genital tract, and the care of wounds and burns.…”

“…The idea for our work stemmed from the following: (1) some of our female patients used diluted honey for vaginal douching, and this traditional infertility treatment was sometimes anecdotally followed by uncomplicated pregnancies; (2) we observed in vitro that diluted Egyptian bee honey and royal jelly (H/RJ) have an enhancing effect on sperm motility, particularly in subnormal samples; (3) the highly nutritive, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and reproduction‐enhancing properties of these honey bee products have been amply described [2–13]; (4) in intrauterine insemination procedures, after sperm processing and selection, a nutritive medium is routinely used to enhance sperm motility and quality [14]; and (5) not only does the sperm of drones (male bees), which are fed honey and bee bread, have an extraordinary longevity, it retains its motility for several weeks at room temperature [15].…”

“…However, continuous usage of eCG can result in the generation of antibodies that render future usage of such hormone ineffective (Bodin et al, 1997). For this reason, several studies examined the effects of replacing eCG with royal jelly (a honeybee product) on reproductive parameters in Awassi ewes (Husein and Kridli, 2002;Kridli et al, 2003;Husein and Haddad, 2006;Kridli and Al-Khetib, 2006). Results indicated that royal jelly can effectively be incorporated into estrus synchronization programs to replace eCG.…”
