“…Indeed, the proliferation of rat gonocytes is induced by 17 -oestradiol (Li et al 1997). Moreover, male rats treated perinatally with an aromatase inhibitor showed a decrease in the number of spermatozoa in the testis (Gerardin et al 2002). Hypogonadal mice, in which germ cell development never progresses beyond the pachytene stage, developed elongated spermatids after treatment with oestradiol (Ebling et al 2000).…”

“…There was a decrease in the number of spermatozoa found in the testes and in the daily sperm production. Only fifty percent of these males were capable of presenting male sexual behavior, while twenty five percent of the males did not present male sexual behavior, showing female sexual behavior when castrated and pretreated with estrogen (Gerardin et al, 2002). These results, plus data from Dohler (1991), demonstrated that the differentiation of the male rat hypothalamus is not exclusively estrogen dependent and that, during differentiation of the brain, estrogen is supportive of the primary actions of androgens.…”

“…Conducts and/or exposure to some drugs in the perinatal period that apparently do not endanger the neonate may lead to later side effects (Carlos et al, 1996;Arena & Pereira, 2002;Gerardin & Pereira, 2002;Pereira et al, 2003 a,b,c ). Thus, their impact upon health and ecosystems is debated.…”

“…Após a detecção da fê-mea em cio, esta foi colocada na gaiola de comportamen--to junto com uma rata isca por um período de 15 minutos. Os parâmetros observados foram: 1) latência para primeira monta e 2) número total de lordoses (GERAR-DIN; PEREIRA, 2002;GERARDIN et al, 2005GERARDIN et al, , 2006.…”
