“…37,38 The SVL (45 mm SVL) at sexual maturity of males of S. aeneus was equal to that of females. 32 The ratio (104.5%) male SVL (52.5 mm) to female SVL (50.2 mm) were higher than other intersexual SVL ratios recorded previously in Sceloporus (101.3% 39 ). The SVL at sexual maturity of males S. aeneus within this population was the smallest recorded in this species.…”

“…This morphology is observed in the iguanids, the Mexican spiny‐tailed iguana Ctenosaura pectinata (Fig. D) (Uribe et al, ), and the torquate lizards Sceloporus aeneus (Manríquez‐Morán et al, ) and Sceloporus t. torquatus (Fig. E) (Uribe et al, ).…”

“…In adult ovaries of nonavian reptiles, the germinal epithelium consists of oogonia and primary oocytes, in meiotic stages of prophase I, mixed with epithelial somatic cells (Jones et al, 1982;Klosterman, 1983;Guraya, 1989;Shanbhag and Prasad, 1993;Moore et al, 2008;Lozano et al, 2014). The number of germinal beds may differ among species, with one, two, or more per ovary (Tokarz, 1978;Jones et al, 1982;Licht, 1984;Guraya, 1989;Uribe et al, 1995Uribe et al, , 1996Norris, 1997;Manr ıquez-Mor an et al, 2013). In most lizards and snakes, there are two germinal beds in each ovary.…”

“…Regarding the females of S. aeneus , risk aversion seems to be an important feature that may help individuals to protect their future reproductive value by lowering their predation risk. Although life‐history traits are similar between males and females, it has been observed that females are able to produce up to two clutches in one reproductive season (Manríquez‐Morán, Villagrán Santa Cruz, & Méndez‐de la Cruz, ; Ramírez‐Bautista, Hernández‐Salinas, Cruz‐Elizalde, Lozano, & Rodríguez‐Romero, ), therefore caution could secure future reproductive events.…”

“…Therefore, this study aimed to determine the presence of personality in the black‐bellied bunchgrass lizard Sceloporus aeneus by evaluating the consistency over time and across situations of three different behavioural traits between adult males and females during the breeding season. Sceloporus aeneus is a small terrestrial, oviparous lizard endemic to México; its maximum reproductive activity ranges from March to July (Manríquez‐Morán, Villagrán Santa Cruz, & Méndez‐de la Cruz, ) during which they present sexual dimorphism in coloration. Since it has been shown that males are more active during mate acquisition increasing the risk of predation (Magnhagen, ), our predictions were twofold.…”
