Materia and Method: Cases of POAG, with (26 cases, 52 eyes) or without (28 cases, 56 eyes) family history of glaucoma, were investigated retrospectively. The following results were recorded: best-corrected visual acuity, slit-lamp, fundus, gonioscopic and perimetric examinations, intraocular pressure (IOP) measured by Goldmann applanation tonometer, analysis of optic disc topography by Heidelberg Retina Tomograph (HRT III), and central corneal thickness (CCT) using ultrasonic pachymeter. Mann-Whitney U, chi-square and t-tests were used for statistical analysis. Results: No statistically significant differences in terms of sex, CCT, IOP, and HRT III parameters were observed between the patients with or without family history of glaucoma. The mean age at the time of glaucoma diagnosis was 48.1±8.6 in the subjects with family history of glaucoma and, 56.4±10.9 in those without family history of the disease. The cases with family history were significantly younger at the time of glaucoma diagnosis than those without family history (p: 0.003). Discussion: No differences were detected between the optic disc topographic parameters of the POAG cases with and without family history, whereas it was observed that the POAG cases with positive family history were younger at the time of glaucoma diagnosis.
