Reproducibility of brain metabolite concentration measurements in lesion free white matter at 1.5 T

Abstract: BackgroundPost processing for brain spectra has a great influence on the fit quality of individual spectra, as well as on the reproducibility of results from comparable spectra. This investigation used pairs of spectra, identical in system parameters, position and time assumed to differ only in noise. The metabolite amplitudes of fitted time domain spectroscopic data were tested on reproducibility for the main brain metabolites.MethodsProton spectra of white matter brain tissue were acquired with a short spin … Show more

“…According to the principle of parsimony, a model with more parameters is less likely to reproducibly predict in vivo datasets with highly varying metabolites. 35 Simulation was based on the assumption of a 20 Â 20 Â 20 mm volume, homogeneously filled with the respective metabolites. The basis set was validated with phantom data.…”

“…Cerebral metabolites are believed to correlate with cerebral cellular changes and/or injury. Reproducibility of H 1 -MRS is high (Busch et al 2015;McGuire et al 2017b;Wijtenburg et al 2019).…”
