REPRESENTASI KEKERASAN SIMBOLIK TERHADAP PEREMPUAN DALAM TAYANGAN FILM TELEVISI SUARA HATI ISTRI (Representation of Symbolic Violence against Women in the TV Movie Suara Hati Istri)

Abstract

This study is based on Siegfried Jäger's (2009) Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. The research data were collected from three episodes of the TV Movie Suara Hati Istri (abbreviated as SHI), i.e. Sakitnya Hatiku Tak Pernah Mendapat Cinta Suami (abbreviated as SHTMCS), Pernikahan Yang Dipaksa Pasti Akan Penuh Air Mata (abbreviated as PDPPA), and Istri Bayaran (abbreviated as IB). To reveal how the TV Movie SHI displayed symbolic violence against women through language, the researcher analyzed discursive context, conducted structural analysis (Strukturanalyse), analyzed the position of the discourse (Diskursposition), and conducted detailed analysis (Feinanalyse). Bourdieu's theory supports the research's findings. It appears the TV movie SHI used linguistic factors such as vocabularies (verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs), modalities, idioms, implications, and speech acts to display symbolic violence against women, which is a tool to support the patriarchal ideology.
