Representasi Buruh Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok Dalam Museum Maritim Indonesia

Abstract

The Indonesian Maritime Museum is one of the museums that aim to preserve the identity of the Indonesian people as a maritime nation in the past. In addition, this museum is also intended to introduce the world of ports to the public. Thus, the museum is a space for the representation of all matters concerning Indonesian maritime culture and ports, including port laborers. This article aims to analyze the representation of Tanjung Priok port laborers in the Indonesian Maritime Museum. Using an interdisciplinary approach, this study shows that the representation of Tanjung Priok port laborers in the museum is very minimal and only becomes complementary to other collections. This indicates that the museum has not shown its purpose proportionally. Instead of introducing the port aspect comprehensively, the museum actually becomes a space that marginalizes the role of Tanjung Priok port laborers, as the historical reality. This tendency reflects the legacy of the New Order regime, on the one hand. On the other hand, the situation also shows skepticism on the part of the museum manager. However, the lack of collaboration between Tanjung Priok port laborers and the museum management also influenced this condition.
