Pediatric health services research is a multidisciplinary field aimed at improving the health of youth. It examines how factors, structures, and systems can be improved to deliver highâquality care to all youth and has the potential to eliminate health disparities. This comprises examinations of medical and cost effectiveness, clarification of health status concepts, modification of health services and delivery systems, and the evaluation of clinical procedures. Yet health and healthcare disparities in racially and ethnically minoritized youth remain pervasive and persistent, in large part due to the lack of representation and inclusion in health services research, including clinical trials. Indeed, a recent congressionally mandated report from the National Academies of Sciences (2022) called for the improved representation of racial and ethnic minoritized groups in healthârelated research and clinical trials (1). In a concerted effort to increase diversity and inclusion in pediatric clinical trials, beginning in 2022, Medicaid will provide coverage for routine costs associated with clinical trial participation.
