Report of some Eurytomid wasps (Hymenoptera: Eurytomidae) and their associated host plants from two provinces of Iran

Abstract: The species of Eurytomidae family and their trophic associations with different plants were studied in two provinces of Iran (Hamedan and Lorestan). Seed-feeding Eurytomid wasps were reared from different plant seeds collected during 2008-2012. Totally 600 specimens of Eurytomid wasps were collected. Among them, 6 Eurytomid wasp species were identified as a new species for Iranian fauna and three species were described as a new species for science. Among 26 identified Eurytomid wasps, 18 species belong to Bruc… Show more

“…In general, the amount of insect-feeding seed damage is low [72]. Occurrences of Eurytomid wasps (Hymenoptera: Eurytomidae) in seeds are amply documented for different species [73], and on sage seeds, we confirmed and highlighted the seed feeder S. salviae for this sage species. Previously, other finds on S. pratensis, S. glutinosa L., S. scabiosifolia Lam., and probably S. grandiflora Etlin.…”

“…This study aimed to identify Bruchophagus species associated with Astragalus brachydontus in some parts of North-western provices, as a widely distributed host plant of Bruchophagus. As healthy plant seeds are inevitable need for plant regeneration in the rangeland of the country, the results of this study can be directly used for collecting healthy seeds from uninfected zones in the country (Alsendi et al, 2019, Parsa et al, 2020. At the same way, the determination geographical distribution and host domain of each of these species as a prelude to developing a control program in the rangeland plants in Iran.…”
