“…These concentrations are 10 to 40% of the respective CMCs. At such concentrations, submicellar aggregates at solid-liquid interfaces may be formed, as proposed for different nonbiological models by Fuerstenau and Herrera-Urbina (9), Harwell and colleagues (14,15), and Gu and colleagues (11)(12)(13). Submicellar aggregates were also postulated when concentration-dependent base-catalyzed hydrolysis was observed for a series of amphiphilic betaine esters (33).…”

“…The use of mixtures of surfactants has been found to greatly influence the CAC value. 25,26,29,30 A study of mixtures of anionic and nonionic surfactant's adsolubilization on alumina was reported by Robert et al 31 and Lopata et al 32 One noteworthy observation was that the nonionic polyethoxylated nonylphenol did not adsorb at all on alumina, but in the presence of 10 mol% anionic surfactant, formation of admicelles (nonionic in nature) took place without any difficulty.…”

“…11,12 One cannot say that the change in the slope of the isotherm is only due to surface charge since such slope changes are seen even in the cases of nonionic surfactants adsorbed on silica. 11,[23][24][25] Since fluorescence and spin probe studies reveal that both the microviscosity and polarity of aggregates are constant from region 1 /region 2 transition through region 3, 26 it will be erroneous to associate the slope change to the change in the morphology of the aggregates.…”

“…The evolution of bilayers has been the subject of controversy between two representative adsorption models (15)(16)(17)(18). The reverse orientation model is derived from experimental data of adsorption isotherms, electrophoresis, and spectroscopy (5,6).…”
