Replantation of Total Avulsed Scalp With Microsurgery: Experience of Eight Cases and Literature Review

Abstract: Successful replantations can achieve the best esthetic and functional results compared with other procedures. Scalp amputations sustained from sharp cuts seem to be quite as common as hair traction injuries. Such amputation injuries were more common in male patients with short hair. The manner of injury often will influence planning during replantation. Even if the amputated scalp was crushed or contaminated, such as those sustained from animal bites, replantation should still proceed, unless a greater contrai… Show more

“…Similar findings were encountered in previous reports. 10 Actually, this finding was characteristically confined to the nuchal line of the occiput, which suggests that the tight junctions at the area may have created the resistance against the shearing avulsion forces and thus damage to the mentioned area. This necrotic part is usually circumference of linea nuchea of occipital bone.…”

“…[20] Avülse skalpte anastomoz için uygun nitelikte ven bununamadığı durumlarda, skalpten ekstra arterler alıcı venlere anastomoz edilerek venöz drenaj sağlanabilir. “…Many technics apply to surgery of the scalp when there is large loss of tissue. Scalp reinsertion microsurgery dominates all scalp surgery techniques in cases of total avulsion [1] [2]. When reinsertion is not possible for several reasons [1], other alternatives are available depending on whether the pericranium is intact or not [3] [4] [5].…”
