Replacing the involute profile with an improved cycloid profile to improve the bearing capacity for the elliptical gear drives

Abstract:The involute curve is the most widely used in the design of tooth profiles for non-circular gears (NCGs) because of its mathematical simplicity and convenience for design and manufacture. Still, the condition to avoid undercutting often results in a large number of teeth and a small tooth size that reduces the load capacity of the gear drives. On the other hand, in elliptical gears (EGs), a particular case of NCGs, the unequal radii of the centrodes lead to unequal geometric shapes of the teeth arranged on the… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
