Repercussion of manufacturing techniques on mechanical and wear peculiarity of zno particulate‐filled polyester composites

Abstract: This article presents the comparison of mechanical and dry sliding wear peculiarity of zinc oxide (ZnO)-filled polyester composites, fabricated by two different techniques. These two techniques are simple mechanical stirring and vertical centrifugal casting. ZnO filled polyester based homogeneous composites are fabricated by simple mechanical stirring technique whereas composites fabricated by vertical centrifugal casting technique are functionally graded materials (FGMs). Dry sliding wear tests are performed … Show more

“…The transfer‐film of Hybrid‐fabric–ZnO NWs composites showed a nearly identical morphology to that of hybrid‐fabric–plasma and hybrid‐fabric–ZnO NPs composites. Nevertheless, EDS elemental analysis showed that the transfer‐film of Hybrid‐fabric–ZnO NWs composites contained high fractions of ZnO, which manifested that the ZnO NWs, released during sliding process, participated in the formation of a robust transfer film with high load carrying capability . Based on above results, the relevant mechanisms about how ZnO‐enhanced interphase governs the superior tribological properties are proposed, as shown in Fig.…”

“…Thermosetting polymer matrix-based FGM has been fabricated by the researchers using centrifugal casting technique. 3539 However, to the best of author’s knowledge, FGM-based thermoplastic (PBT) gear has not been fabricated so far. The focus of this study is to develop FGM-based glass fiber reinforced PBT gears and compare the transmission efficiency of FGM PBT gears with the unfilled and homogeneous PBT gears.…”
