Repeatability of Spitzer/Irac Exoplanetary Eclipses With Independent Component Analysis

Abstract: The research of effective and reliable detrending methods for Spitzer data is of paramount importance for the characterization of exoplanetary atmospheres. To date, the totality of exoplanetary observations in the mid-and farinfrared, at wavelengths >3 μm, have been taken with Spitzer. In some cases, in past years, repeated observations and multiple reanalyses of the same data sets led to discrepant results, raising questions about the accuracy and reproducibility of such measurements. “…We take square arrays of pixels with the stellar centroid at their centers as fixed photometric apertures during each observation, following the same procedure as adopted by, e.g., Morello et al (2015Morello et al ( , 2016, and Ingalls et al (2016). The centroid position varies within the same pixel during each observation.…”

“…The original source signals are retrieved through a linear transformation that maximizes their Morello et al 2014Morello et al , 2015Morello et al , 2016Morello 2015) with excellent results. We refer the reader to those publications and the relevant cited literature for more technical details about ICA and the different implementations.…”

“…Following a standard ICA algorithm (e.g., Morello 2015; Morello et al 2016), we simultaneously fitted a transit model (with the same parameters as in Section 2.3) and a linear combination of the non-transit components to the relevant raw light curves. We computed the "stacked" and a "weighted" spectra, as described in Section 2.3.…”

“…In this paper we present an independent reanalysis of the three Spitzer /IRAC phase curves of WASP43 b using the wavelet pixel-Independent Component Analysis (ICA) pipeline (Morello et al 2016). We repeated the analysis by adopting different stellar limb-darkening models, which affect the retrieved transit parameters.…”
